CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Cyrus Montague
CANON: original character
AGE: His human form has the appearance of a man in his 40's, but in truth he is well over 200 years old.
CANON POINT: at the end of his given history.

BACKGROUND: Although his particular species of dragon is native to Europe, Cyrus was brought to America in the 1700's by an enterprising witch who planned to harvest the young dragon for his very valuable parts. Despite the witch's ulterior intentions, however, he was never given any reason to distrust her or think of her as anything but his own mother, and it was from her that he first learned how to use magic and disguise himself as a human. Fortunately — though it hardly seemed fortunate to him at the time — he was discovered well before the witch could slaughter him for harvest, and thus he was forced to flee west into the untamed wilds of Appalachia. There he survived not only by hunting the magical beasts which prowled the mountains where he made his home, but also by picking off livestock from human farms in the valleys below; over several decades this behavior earned him a reputation as a dire dragon, and multiple attempts were made to hunt him down. Most of these attempts he thwarted through his own cunning and the careful use of his human disguise, but eventually he was outsmarted: in 1956, he was captured by an expert team of hunters who intended to send him back to the European mountains where he belonged. Although he managed to escape from these hunters, the experience was incredibly harrowing and traumatic for him, and led him to the realization that if he wanted to avoid capture again, he would have to have to adopt his human disguise permanently (or at least until they stopped looking for him). As a result, he adopted Cyrus Montague as his human persona, and made use of his wits and glamors both to drift from one safe haven to another. Most recently he's settled into the small river city of Port Marion, and it's there he intends to remain until the hunters pick up his trail again.

Personality-wise, although he remains ever vigilant to the danger of being discovered once again, he's nevertheless grown complacent with his human life and is, more often than not, incredibly lazy. He works only when he feels like it and relies on his glamors whenever he spies an easier path to something he wants, though the list of exactly what he wants is mercurial and ever changing with his moods. (That being said, there are three things he's always in the mood for, in order of importance: shiny trinkets and treasures, good food, and good sex.) Despite his reluctance to expend too much effort in the pursuit of his wants, he nevertheless has an incredible amount of pride, bordering on reckless vanity in his strength and overall ability. The idea that he could possibly be incapable at anything within his range of skill is laughable to him, and it isn’t one that he’s willing to entertain for even a second, not even when all evidence points to the truth of it. Of course, the one thing he would never hesitate to spend any effort on is his own survival; his instinct for self-preservation is stronger than all else, and the very instant he suspects that he could be headed for true danger, he's more inclined to cut his losses and flee before he does anything else.

INCENTIVE/FIT: Cyrus is a simple dragon with simple needs, and truth be told, just the promise of a free vacation in a world where he doesn't have to worry about being hunted that only requires him to have a lot of sex (or, okay, intimate contact) in return is one hell of a deal in his mind. That being said, the offer of an incentive isn't one he'll pass up, and so he'll ask for the one thing he truly believes the Eudio representatives can offer him: a massive pile of gold. (Never mind that his human apartment is too small to even contain that much gold, he'll figure it out. Somehow.)
SAMPLES: here is a network-style thread from an old game, and here is a brief action-style thread from a previous Eudio test drive meme!

ANYTHING ELSE? As a dragon, Cyrus has a few different powers of note, such as his heightened senses (though only mildly heightened in his human state!), capacity to use and sense magic, his ability to shift between human and dragon forms (mostly) at will, and the magical healing properties of his blood. He also has the ability to glamor people through prolonged eye contact, putting them into a pliable, easily suggestible state in which he can sway them into doing as he wills. Naturally, he would anticipate this power being nullified upon his arrival in Eudio, although he doesn't anticipate just how much he's been relying upon it until now...

As another note, his ability to shift between his natural state and his human disguise is noted as being mostly under his control only for the amount of focus it requires and the difficulty it poses as a result. Without any external force or magic in place, a dragon of his size (about 10m high and 25m long) must use an immense amount of concentration in order to take the guise of a much smaller human shape, which only becomes more difficult the longer it tries to maintain that shape. Cyrus uses a magical object called a Medean band to help keep him from accidentally reverting into his natural state; it has the appearance of a braided leather cord, which he usually wears around his neck, and as long as it makes a closed loop around any part of his body — in either state — it prevents him from transforming at all, by his own will or otherwise.
